About the Nominations

About Awarding Engineering Innovation

Engineers shape their surroundings and society with their work, but recognition of their outsized influence is not always apparent.

This is why create has set out to illuminate the heights of innovation being reached in the engineering profession, across multiple disciplines and sectors.

How were they selected?

At the beginning of the year, we invited engineering professionals to nominate either their peers or themselves for this list. Nominations were also made on behalf of Engineers Australia.

The call for entries was actively promoted in create, the Engineers Australia website and newsletter, promotion on LinkedIn, and emails to a broad list of organisations and universities. The opportunity to be considered was available to engineers working in Australia and to Australian engineers working overseas. It was not restricted to members of Engineers Australia.

To ensure the focus was on current activities, the criteria for inclusion specified that engineers must enter work that was done in the past two years. We compiled a respected panel of judges who assessed the applications, looking at aspects such as the problem it solves, the benefits it provides and the individual’s contribution to the project.

If you are doing something innovative and feel you should be in the list or know someone else who should be, make sure you submit a nomination next year. As the saying goes, you’ve got to be in it to win it. We will be calling for entries in the fourth quarter of this year.
